Lou Rose Coulthard

Humanistic psychotherapeutic counsellor

My background is in theatre-making and writing and I am fascinated by stories, how the tales we have about ourselves help to build our identities, and how sometimes those stories might be stuck. I find that by honestly, creatively and curiously reviewing and refining these stories we can integrate them more fully into our life, so that we’re not defined by them anymore but can hold them as our own.

Hi there, and a warm welcome. I’m Lou Rose Coulthard, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and therapist. I’m a kind, genuine, down-to-earth person and am naturally hopeful, curious and creative.

My approach is humanistic which means that I work with your uniqueness, believing that you hold the power to make positive growth in your life. Through our relationship we could build awareness of present feelings, thoughts, sensations and experiences and gently explore how responses, patterns of behaviour and meaning connected to these might be affecting you, paving the way for deeper understanding and fresh, hopeful possibilities.

Together we can use my artistic practice to flavour the work we’ll do, bringing a creative nature to our sessions by using imagination, imagery and metaphor to explore more fully the vastness of our human experience, moving away from just talking about life to living and feeling it in the here and now.

I’ve had counselling myself and understand that coming to therapy can sometimes feel like a strange, un-nerving or uncomfortable thing to do, please know that you really are welcome here.

Qualification: Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, University of Brighton
