About our services
Individuals under the age of 18 fall into our children and young people category but we understand that maturity, independence, and capacity will vary enormously within this group. Many people over the age of 18 may also benefit from a family-oriented approach. Equally, individuals 16+ can access therapy through our adult services which are bookable online. The option you choose may be dependent on the level of support needed. You are welcome to talk this through with a member of the team to help you decide which approach is best.
What we offer
Children and Young People's Therapy
Therapy can provide a private and safe space for children and young people to share their difficulties, explore their internal and external worlds, and process what they might be going through. Talking to a trusted person can help them to feel unburdened. Play, drama and art can also offer creative tools as a language for a child / young person to express themselves. For those under the age of 16, we usually begin with a 30-minute phone call to discuss your individual needs, before the full 50-minute initial consultation.
Parent Therapy
If a child is having therapy, it is often helpful for the parent(s) to have some support alongside this. Therapy for parents can be arranged at any time. Usually, a different therapist would work with the parents. Parents may wish to have therapy together as a couple if that is appropriate, or separately as individuals, both of which we can offer depending on each family’s unique requirements.
Family Therapy
Sometimes it is recommended that a family have sessions together rather than individual therapy. It can be helpful to talk through difficulties together and understand problems from each member’s perspective. Working on communication and empathy between each other can aid a deeper understanding within families and help to work out ways forward with whatever is going on. This is a more specialist service and so if family therapy is something you are looking for, we suggest you get in touch to find out about our current capacity.
What we do not offer
As a talking therapy service, we are unable to offer diagnoses or diagnostic testing for mental health or neurological conditions such as ADHD or Autism. We offer support with these concerns through counselling and therapy but do not assess them within a diagnostic or medical framework. Our team includes therapists who are neurodivergent and neurodiversity-affirming, and practitioners with specialist knowledge and training in these areas.
Important considerations
Affordability
Therapy can represent a significant financial commitment, and where our children, young people and families’ service is a specialist provision, we are unable to offer low-cost or funded therapy for it.
Where a child or young person is involved with other services such as mental health services or social care, communication or meetings with other professionals may be necessary. These interactions and any required report writing may involve additional costs, to be discussed with your therapist. It is important to establish who will be paying for these services and if they are realistically affordable.
The standard fees for our children, young people, and family services are outlined below:
- The cost of the first telephone call to discuss individual needs is £32 and lasts up to 30 minutes .
- The cost of the full 50-minute initial consultation is £62.
- Ongoing sessions start at £62 depending on the qualifications and experience of the practitioner. If 2 therapists are required for family work, the cost will reflect that.
Communication and consent
For children and young people under the age of 18, therapy sessions are confidential but we will usually require permission to contact their parents or guardians as appropriate. We may also need to speak with other professionals who are involved in their care. This would need to be agreed by all parties.
